The Brain Tumour Charity is our chosen charity this Christmas

Christmas is a season of quality time with your loved ones, of generosity and giving, of rejoicing and celebrating life. Unfortunately, many families affected by incurable conditions won't be able to spend this festive time like everyone else. And the hope to make more memories together is the greatest gift they could ever receive.

More than 11,000 people are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour in the UK each year, of which about half are cancerous. Many others are diagnosed with a secondary brain tumour. Brain tumours can affect people of any age, including children.

Symptoms of a brain tumour include a headache, seizures (fits), memory problems and changes in your personality. Treatments for brain tumours are robust and debilitating; they include chemotherapy with a high level of toxicity, surgery on the brain and radiotherapy that can cause lifelong side effects.
The cause of most brain tumours is unknown.

According to NHS, only around 15 out of every 100 people with a cancerous brain tumour will survive for 10 years or more after being diagnosed.

"Living with a brain tumour is like being from another planet. Your brain is very, very affected, and people do not understand," – says Diana Nilsson, creative director of David&Martin, who lost her husband to a glioblastoma brain tumour in September 2020. Since my husband's diagnosis, Christmas has never been the same for me. The only thing I wished for was for the cure to be found, for my family to stay whole."

Progress in research into brain tumours has been slow - since 1971, there has been an overall increase in survival of less than 10% for people with a high-grade brain tumour, one of the poorest improvements across all cancers. This highlights the need for investment in this field of research.

This year David&Martin will be supporting The Brain Tumour Charity as our chosen charity. The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally.
