Every Piece of Jewellery Tells a Story

Every Piece of Jewellery Tells a Story

Jewellery is a very personal thing, and each of us has a unique relationship with it. Some adore it; others hate it. Some see it as an investment, and some – as a waste of money. However, one thing is hard to argue with: jewellery has always been there for a reason, and it is here to stay.

We collected some wise quotes from famous people that reflect their thoughts about jewellery.

Every piece of jewellery tells a story. – Anonymous

And this is so true. It can be a story of how a particular piece was created, or it can be a story of how you got it. And I am a sucker for creating those stories and wearing meaningful pieces.

But I will focus on two examples that I find most beautiful. The first piece of jewellery I got from my partner was an exquisite ensemble of a collier and a pair of earrings from a Danish jewellery design house Georg Jensen, a traditional but at the same time modern brand. It was bought on Bond Street in London. The collier sadly got lost during one of our multiple moves, but the earrings stayed. I treasure them. The simplistic 925 silver tear-shaped earrings became a part of our love story, where I shed quite a lot of tears but which made my life worth living. Leaving these earrings to one of my daughters when she comes to age, I will tell her how much her dad loved me and how these tear-shaped pendants symbolised beauty and sadness for both of us.

Years later, I have bought the custom made ring from the same brand for my daughter. Made of white gold and featuring a huge blue topaz, as blue as my daughter's eyes, the ring serves a reminder of the time my daughter was born. The moment she first came into this world, the time seemed to stop; all went quiet. She looked at me with her big blue eyes, shocked at the bright light around her, and I felt that my life changed forever.

Jewellery makes you stand out. You can surely find and wear a conversation starter, but will it be the one that will lead to a conversation about you?

The best way to shine is to wear that perfect piece that reflects your inner world. Then it will be the spice that will make you an ideal irresistible dish for others' hungry eyes. All you need is to find it.

Simplicity is a keynote of all true elegance. – Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel

Coco is an indisputable icon of style and fashion, and her wise quotes are valid for any epoque. Simplicity is a foundation of our brand too, though it originates from the Scandinavian roots of David&Martin. Simplicity our way means ultimate craftsmanship and carefully thought through design. It means stopping at the right time and not overdoing it. Simplicity also means clean lines and shapes that underline a person's individuality. Your jewellery should be wearable and never steal your spotlight.

Pearls are always appropriate. – Jackie Kennedy

Trends and fast fashion surround us, and it is easy to get lost in them. But some pieces are simply timeless. The pearls are one of them. Regardless of your age, correctly styled, pearls will always make you look classy. Don't go too wild with it though, the best piece to invest in is a simple pearl string necklace. It is a perfect gift that will stay with its owner their whole life.

Jewellery doesn't have to be expensive. It has to be meaningful. – Anonymous

We are sold the idea that expensive jewellery gives you the status, and in some way, signifies "bigger" love. But does the real world really work like that? You can show love through a handcrafted piece made of wire. You can show your true feelings through a simple sterling silver piece you found in a popular accessories chain after browsing there for hours because you needed to find the right piece for the right person.

We are all different, but the most precious pieces of jewellery I hold on to are the ones we bought when travelling, the ones I got from people I love, the ones I gave to myself to mark certain milestones in my life. They can be insanely expensive or dirty-cheap, but I do not really care about the price tag at the end of the day. The meaning and the memories my jewellery is filled with are all that matters.

Life is a party. Dress for it. – Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn

Audley certainly knew a thing or two about life and a good party. And why not? Life is today, and tomorrow is not guaranteed. The whole coronavirus situation proves it. So when you are getting ready for a workday, why not throwing on something a little more festive, a little bolder? You don't have to save those beautiful pieces for a special occasion because every day of our life IS a special occasion. We do not imply that you should wear it all and forget any style rules. Just remember the wise quote from a wise woman and allow yourself more than you do. You deserve it.

Beauty is who you are. Jewellery is simply the icing on the cake. - Unknown

And how to argue with that? Reading this, you may want to ask yourself how much icing you'd like on your cake on any given day. Some days you may not feel like you fancy any icing at all. Jewellery is never a must because it is your choice that makes you beautiful. When I was younger, I opted out of jewellery on the days of exams or difficult interviews as I felt it distracted me. Now, facing similar challenges, I wear jewellery that energises me because I found the perfect pieces that give me strength. I hold on to them like the tokens of good luck, and believe me, they always work.  It became my jewellery goal to find the right piece for every occasion, and though I already have an extensive collection, I still have a way to go. It seems like one can never have too much jewellery.
